Mrs. Nancy Flax's ceramics student, Karli Komarek recently created horse hair pottery. Karli created the pottery and then applied the horsehair to the heated pottery when removed from the kiln. The burning hair creates smoke patterns and carbon trails on the surface of the heated pottery that remain as decoration after it cools.
TMP High School students enjoyed a break from regular uniform dress and got to participate in Ugly Christmas Sweater day. Students paid $5.00 to participate with proceeds going to purchase gifts for the DSNWK Angel Tree.
Tonight's basketball games with Oakley are being postponed due to potentially hazardous travel conditions for Oakley.
In honor of the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mass for the junior high this morning was celebrated in Spanish. A special thanks to Luis Fernandez (father of Luis '32, Jose '27, Diego '26, and Esperanza '25), who provided beautiful music. During community time, Mrs. Pinkney led the students in playing La Loteria (bingo) and Mrs. Fox provided students with hot chocolate.
It was an exciting night for TMP-M Junior High basketball! The boys and girls both won their league championship games. Way to go, Monarchs!
Congratulations to Kade Harris, Michael Hale and Kendall Walker for being selected to the Sports in Kansas 2022 2A All-State Football Team. Kade was selected as a First Team member and Michael and Kendall were selected to the Honorable Mention Team.
The Junior High Chess Team brought home another 1st Place team finish from Allison Traditional Magnet School Saturday, leading with 17 team points, narrowly edging the host school by 1/2 a point. 8th Grader Carson Pinkney placed 5th with 5 wins and one loss, while 7th Graders Evan Staab, Colby Schmeidler, Cade Schlautman, and E.J. Gibson placed 7th, 9th, 13th and 14th respectively, with 4 wins and 2 losses. In team competition, the Junior High team is undefeated so far this year!
The TMP-Marian FFA chapter officers competed in the NW District Leadership School in Colby on November 29th. The contest consisted of a 100 question multiple choice test over all aspects of FFA and a presentation of the FFA Opening and Closing Ceremonies in front of a panel of judges.
The team finished 6th on the test and 11th on the ceremonies. This gave them an overall placing of 8th out of 15 teams. Our officers are: Allison Gottschalk - President, Tessa Befort - Vice-President, Teagan Legleiter - Secretary, Grace A. Schmeidler - Treasurer, Morgan Markus - Reporter and Chloe Purinton - Sentinel.
This was the first year for us to attempt this contest, and the officers did an excellent job!
TMP-M's Harris is a 2A Finalist Player of the Year...Again!
Senior Kade Harris has been nominated as a finalist for the 2A Defensive Player of the Year. This is the third year that Kade has received recognition for a Player of the Year award. His sophomore year he was a finalist for Offensive Player of the Year. Last year and this year both he has been a finalist for Defensive Player of the Year.

The TMP-Marian FFA chapter competed in the Northwest District Veterinary Science contest in Colby on November 29th. The Greenhand team placed 6th out of 15 teams. The team consisted of Caleb Marintzer, Daniel Beltran, Ainsleigh Bain, Ella Bain, Collin Haselhorst, Macara Rohr and Alex Loving. Caleb and Daniel were the top 2 finishers for TMP-Marian with 15th and 22nd place, respectively. The Senior division team placed 4th out of 18 teams. The team consisted of Chloe Purinton, Grace Schmeidler, Michaela Dickman, Tessa Befort, Kimberly Sack, Teagan Legleiter, Morgan Markus and Allison Gottschalk. Chloe led the team with a 4th place finish for a medal followed by Grace Schmeidler in 20th. The contest consisted of a 50 question multiple choice test; 10 math practicum problems and identification of 50 pieces of equipment, animal breeds or parasites. Way to go Monarchs!

Congratulations to the Chess Team for winning the K - 8 section of the Hutchinson Chess Tournament Saturday! Led by 7th Grader E.J. Gibson's 1st Place individual score of 5 wins and one draw, the team took home 1st Place honors, both as a team and individually. Also medalling were 7th Grader Marcus Stahl, with 4 points, and 7th Grader Zack Billinger with 3 1/2 points.
