Thomas More Prep-Marian received a total of $1,220 in grants awarded from the Midwest Energy Community Fund. Five hundred dollars of these funds will be used to continue the Reality U experiences for 8th and 10th graders at TMP-Marian. The school hosts Reality U for its own students as well as 10th graders from Ellis and Victoria High Schools. The marching band received $450 in funds to use towards instrument repair and other items essential to a successful marching band. The junior high English Classes received $250 in funds for use in purchasing classroom supplies.

Junior high students in Ms. Rose's English class have been learning the art of argument. 7th graders are researching and debating whether or not kids should play competitive sports while 8th graders are exploring both sides of the debate on human genetic engineering. As part of the research process, students spent a day in class debating the topic to help build their case.

The Scholars Bowl team had their varsity opener today at Wichita East. The Monarchs finished in third place out of the 24 team field. Our next action is on Thursday at Natoma.
The Lady Monarch Cross Country Team will compete in the 2A KSHSAA State Championships in Wamego on Saturday, October 29th, at 11:10am. Good luck Lady Monarchs! The first tournament of the season for the TMP-Marian Debate team was a success! Coach Seth Perrett and Assistant Coach Wendy Richmeier accompanied the Novice squad to Hoisington on Saturday where Tate Dinkel and Samuel Schroeder placed 6th in the Novice division. Ashley Hipp, Arianna Ayarza, Preston Mermis, and Elizabeth Quakenbush also had strong showings at the tournament.
