Viola ’34 Marie (Herman) Beishline
Viola 1934 Marie Herman Beishline was born to Dr. A. A. Herman and Clara Wiesner Herman in Hays Kansas on September 5, 1916, and passed from this earthly existence on July 20, 2017 at the age of 100. She is survived by one sister Juanita (Nitzi) Vonze, her daughter Kathleen (Candy) Conover, two sons Bryan Andrew Conover and William Joseph (Jay) Conover, fourteen grandchildren, many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Al Beishline, her daughter Jaqueline Ann Lang, three sisters, and one brother.
Viola was valedictorian of her Marian High School 1934 graduating class in Hays, and went on to get her B. S. from Cal State Los Angeles, and her M. A. from Cal State Long Beach in Family Living. She taught Home Economics and English in high school and junior high school until she retired. Then she and her husband built their homestead in Calavaras County California where she raised and showed Persian cats for over 20 years as a breeder.
She was active in AARP and served as a fund raiser and treasurer, and was on the scholarship committee. As a member of AAUW she was instrumental in getting a scholarship for Gold Strike High in San Andreas. She was a life member of the Calavaras County Humane Society, and Friends of the Library, and actively served on many community committees and boards. She was recognized as Calavaras County Woman of the Year for her many contributions to benefit seniors and was proud to see her picture on the billboard in downtown San Andreas.
She will be remembered by her many friends for her quilting, crocheting, and engaging conversation about what we all should be doing to solve the problems of the community and of the world.
