Aubrey Koenigsman, Kayla Vitzum, Deonna Wellbrock, Megan Koenigsman, and Ashley Ostrander

The Thomas More Prep-Marian Ladies’ Soccer Team wrapped up last spring’s season in the Class 4-1A state championship game, and five members of the team saw their performance rewarded with selections to the all-state teams. All-state selections are chosen by coaches from among the top players at each level.

TMP-Marian had two players selected to the first team and three players recognized on the second team.

Deonna Wellbrock SR #8
1st Team All-State
Goalkeeper of the Year

Wellbrock made 1st Team All-State as a Freshman and Junior and the Kansas ODP State Team 3 years. She was named to the 2016 & 2017 Bishop Miege All-Tournament Teams and was a four-year starter and two-year team captain. Wellbrock’s goalkeeping skills were a big part of the Monarchs’ success in being state runners-up this year. She has
been told by other coaches she is one of the best goalkeepers in the state. Wellbrock’s consistent performance was a very big part of the seven shutouts that the team achieved this season with nearly half of the games being against 5A and 6A schools. She tallied up 35 saves, 11 goals, and 1 assist this season and posted a career total of 160 saves, 21 goals and 5 assists. Under Wellbrock’s tenure, the Monarchs posted 31 shutouts in her 4 years. Wellbrock reads the field very well and is an exemplary leader. In addition to her contributions on the soccer pitch, she was also a starter for two other sports, volleyball and basketball, that competed at the state level this year. Academically, Wellbrock shines with a 3.95 GPA. She will continue her soccer career at Fort Hays State University this Fall while working on her undergraduate degree in nursing.

Kayla Vitztum JR #18
1st Team All-State
Forward/Outside Mid

Kayla Vitztum is a two-year starter. She was named to the 2017 Bishop Miege All-Tournament Team. Vitztum lead the Lady Monarchs in scoring this season with 32 goals, a new season record, and she recorded 5 assists as well. Her great speed and handling skills helped position her behind opponents’ back lines for one-on-one opportunities throughout the season. She has tied the career goals scored with and looks to take sole ownership of that record in her senior year.

Megan Koenigsman SR #16
2nd Team All-State
Center Midfielder

Megan Koenigsman makes a return appearance to the 2nd Team All-State, having received the honors in 2016 as well. Koenigsman is a four-year starter and one-year team Captain. She scored 5 goals and had 5 assists in the regular season and notched 13 career goals and 11 career assists. Koenigsman rarely comes off the field, even in games that go into overtime. She is a very strong in the center, able to break down the opposing back line and helps contain the ball in the attacking third. Koenigsman’s 4.0 GPA also proves her work ethic both on and off the field.

Aubrey Koenigsman JR #19
2nd Team All-State
Center Midfielder/Forward

Aubrey Koenigsman is a two-year starter and was named to the 2017 Bishop Miege All-Tournament Team. She scored 22 goals and had 13 assists this season. Koenigsman has tallied 31 career goals and 20 career assists. She is a true team player, giving everything of herself for the better of the team. She is one of the key reason we made it to the state level. Her effort for an underclassman is second to none.

Ashley Ostrander JR #2
2nd Team All-State
Forward/Outside Mid

Ostrander is a two-year starter. She scored 14 goals and had 8 assists this season. She has tallied up 22 career goals and 9 assists in her first three years. Her dominant left foot has been her biggest asset over the years. Her speed and moves helped her team to a 1-0 win in sub-state as she beat the defenders and got down the field to her shooting spot and got off a great left-footed shot.
