Classroom Snapshot : JH Academic Enrichment

Mrs. Brull’s and Mrs. McFarland’s Academic Enrichment class are in the final stages of their household budgeting project.  Mock interviews for jobs were held in the beginning to determine the budget each student would have to work with.

Students had to determine what things are needs or wants when it comes to budgeting. Water, electricity, house, phone, etc. were considered necessities. Entertainment items such as gym memberships, movies, etc. were non-budgeted items.  Next, students had to plan a full week worth of meals and then shop for items at the local grocery store to get a feel for how much even food can cost.  In addition, state and federal taxes were taken out of their mock paychecks.  This project was a real-life experience in daily household living!
