Matthew Moeder ’17 and Trae Megaffin ’18 Selected for National Ensemble

672 Students from 49 States and Territories to Showcase Talents in

Grapevine, TX on November 13, 2017

During the 2015-2016 school year, along with other talented music students across the United States, Matthew Moeder and Trae Megaffin from Thomas More Prep practiced with dedication to gain a part in their district, and state KMEA honor ensembles.

And now Matthew and Trae will join the “best of the best” for the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) 2016 All-National Honor Ensembles on November 13, during the 2016 NAfME National In-Service Conference in Grapevine, Texas (outside Dallas). The gala concert starts at 9:00 a.m. in the Texan Ballroom at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center and is free and open to the public.

Matthew Moeder is a senior at TMP while Trae Megaffin is a junior. Both boys are private vocal students of Dr. Joseph Perniciaro of FHSU and TMP students of music teacher Kathy Amrein.

The All-National Honor Ensembles consist of a concert band, symphony orchestra, mixed chorus and jazz ensemble.  Students were chosen through an audition process.  The concert band and symphony orchestra will each have approximately 150 instruments and the mixed chorus approximately 350 vocalists.  Eligible students have qualified for their state-level honor ensemble program and competed against top students for a spot in these national honor ensembles.  There are approximately 16 students in the All-National Choir from Kansas.
